The announcement was made by the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) during a press conference in Beijing. Where officials confirmed that two Pakistani astronauts will train alongside their Chinese counterparts. One of them will later take part in a short-duration space mission aboard China’s state-of-the-art space station.
This milestone follows an agreement signed in February. Between the China Manned Space Engineering Office (CMSEO) and the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO). The deal paves the way for joint astronaut training and collaborative space research under China’s expanding international space program.
According to the agreement, the Chinese government will oversee the selection, training, and flight preparation of Pakistani astronauts. Once selected, they will undergo a comprehensive training program in China, which will include simulations, spacewalk practice, and advanced payload operations. Al Jazeera
The training phase will span approximately one year. After which the astronauts will be eligible for short-term spaceflight missions in collaboration with Chinese crews. Officials have confirmed that one of the Pakistani astronauts will become the first-ever foreign national to enter the Chinese space station.
Experts believe this partnership marks a major leap in Pakistan’s growing space ambitions. It also reflects deepening ties between Islamabad and Beijing in science, technology, and aerospace development. Pakistan’s participation in the program highlights its commitment to expanding its role in global space exploration and developing advanced research capabilities through international collaboration.
The mission will not only strengthen bilateral ties but also provide valuable experience for Pakistan’s future space initiatives, including the development of indigenous satellites and potential long-term space research projects. Dawn
