Internet Services in Pakistan May Slow Down for a Whole Day

Internet users across Pakistan are likely to face slow connections and possible service disruptions on Tuesday as Pakistan Telecommunications Limited (PTCL) carries out maintenance work on an undersea cable. The company confirmed that the activity will begin on October 14 at around 11am PST and may continue for nearly 18 hours.

PTCL said the repair is necessary to fix a faulty repeater in the submarine cable system. Which plays a key role in maintaining high-speed connectivity across the country. “During this period, customers will face Internet service degradation. We regret the inconvenience,” the company said in a public notice.

The announcement comes as many users in Pakistan. Have already started facing issues accessing social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. According to global internet monitoring service Downdetector, complaints about slow speeds and login failures spiked over the past 24 hours.

This is not the first time that Pakistan’s internet services have been affected by problems in submarine cables. Just last month, PTCL reported disruptions caused by cable cuts in Saudi waters, which slowed down connectivity during peak hours.

The company assured customers that it is working with international partners to complete the maintenance as quickly as possible. PTCL also apologized for the inconvenience caused to users. saying teams are on standby to restore normal connectivity once the work is done.

The latest outage warning comes days after mobile internet services were completely suspended in Islamabad and Lahore during widespread protests by the religious group Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). Authorities had blocked access in both cities to maintain law and order, leaving millions without connectivity for several days.

Analysts say such frequent disruptions underline Pakistan’s heavy dependence on a few submarine cable systems that connect it to the global internet. They warn that even minor faults can cause nationwide slowdowns, affecting online businesses, education, and daily communication.

As the maintenance begins, users are advised to download important data in advance. Also prepare for potential interruptions throughout the day. PTCL said updates about service restoration will be shared on its official website and customer support channels.
