Instagram Launches Teen Accounts in Pakistan to Protect Young Users

Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has launched Instagram Teen Accounts in Pakistan in collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). The new feature is designed to provide greater online protection for young users, especially those under 16.

Under this initiative, all users below 16 are automatically placed into Teen Accounts that limit unwanted contact, filter sensitive content. And restrict exposure to inappropriate material, while still allowing a safe and engaging online experience.

The launch event was attended by representatives from Meta, UNICEF/NCRC, and key child protection organizations. It featured awareness sessions and live demonstrations on digital safety tools, complaint systems, and youth wellbeing practices.

Speaking at the event, PTA Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman reaffirmed the authority’s dedication to creating a safer online environment. He stated that Teen Accounts will play a vital role in protecting children and teenagers from digital risks.

Dr. Priyanka Bhalla, Head of Safety Policy for South Asia at Meta, praised the partnership with PTA and highlighted that Meta’s global safety programs are empowering millions of young users to explore social media securely and responsibly.
