Google has unveiled a major Feature Drop for Pixel smartphones, introducing several new tools that improve communication, security, and personalization. These updates are already rolling out to Pixel devices and are expected to reach more Android phones soon.
One of the standout additions is the new Remix Photos feature in Google Messages. This tool allows users to edit, draw, or add effects to photos directly inside the chat window. It’s powered by Nano Banana, part of Google’s Gemini image generation technology. Both users in a conversation, even on different devices, can view and remix the same image in real time. This feature also supports group chats, making image sharing more fun and creative.
Google has also launched new theme packs inspired by the upcoming film Wicked: For Good. Pixel owners can now apply these exclusive packs, which include wallpapers, custom icons, system sounds, and GIFs. Users can choose from three unique themes: For Good, Glinda, and Elphaba.
Another highlight is the AI Notification Summaries feature. It automatically condenses long messages in notifications, helping users stay updated without opening each app. Starting in December, Pixel phones will also categorize and silence low-priority alerts, reducing distractions throughout the day. While this feature is currently exclusive to Pixel devices, it may reach other Android phones later — possibly in 2026.
To enhance digital safety, Google has introduced Scam Detection for chat app notifications. Available for Pixel 6 and newer models in the United States, this feature uses AI to analyze messages and display a “Likely scam” warning if suspicious activity is detected. The company plans to expand Scam Detection for phone calls to more countries, including the UK, Ireland, India, Australia, and Canada.
The update also improves how users manage their most important contacts. VIP Contact Updates give priority to messages from key people, while a Crisis Badge in the Contacts widget helps users track urgent alerts or emergencies related to those individuals.
In Google Photos, AI-driven editing tools now allow users to make personalized changes such as opening eyes, removing sunglasses, or improving smiles. These edits use the user’s existing labeled photos to create realistic adjustments. The feature is currently available for eligible Android users in the United States.
Meanwhile, Google Maps gains a Power Saving mode, which extends battery life during navigation. A new simplified map view displays only essential details like turns and directions, helping users travel farther without draining power.
Finally, Magic Cue, Google’s AI suggestion system, now runs on Private AI Compute, improving speed and accuracy while maintaining user privacy. Google says the upgrade ensures that sensitive data remains protected even when processed by the cloud-based AI system.
