Former Sindh Chief Minister Aftab Shaban Mirani Passes Away
KARACHI | November 9, 2025 —
Former Sindh chief minister Aftab Shaban Mirani passed away on Saturday after a prolonged illness, his family confirmed.
According to the family, funeral prayers for the late politician will be offered at Masjid Bait-ul-Islam. Defence Phase IV, Karachi, at 10 p.m., followed by burial at Gizri Graveyard.
🏛️ Political Career and Legacy
Aftab Shaban Mirani was a veteran leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). He served as Sindh chief minister in 1990 and later as defence minister during Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s 1993–1996 tenure. Over the decades, he was elected to the National Assembly multiple times on the PPP ticket and remained an influential voice within the party.

President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sorrow over Mirani’s passing. Describing him as a close associate of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto and a devoted PPP stalwart.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also offered heartfelt condolences. Calling Mirani a man of integrity, humility, and dignity who remained an invaluable asset to the party.
PPP leaders including Speaker Sindh Assembly Syed Awais Qadir Shah, Shazia Marri, and Sehar Kamran also expressed their grief and prayed for the departed soul.
