Punjab Launches Dubai-Like Traffic Monitoring System
LAHORE | November 2025 —
The Punjab government has approved a new traffic license points system, modeled after global practices like Dubai’s, to curb reckless driving and improve road safety across the province.
Under the updated framework, each traffic violation will lead to a deduction of two to four points from the offender’s driving license. Motorists who accumulate 20 points within a year will face license suspension ranging from two months to one year, depending on the severity and frequency of the offenses.
Traffic officials explained that the system is designed to hold habitual violators accountable by combining monetary penalties with long-term consequences. Offenses such as overspeeding and signal jumping will each result in a four-point deduction, in addition to regular fines.
Authorities believe this dual-penalty system will act as a stronger deterrent against traffic violations while encouraging responsible driving habits. It also integrates with Punjab’s Safe Cities Authority monitoring network. Allowing traffic data and violations to be recorded automatically for enforcement transparency.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to modernize Punjab’s road infrastructure. And align provincial traffic management with international standards. Officials have said the new system will be launched in phases across major cities. Beginning with Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, and Rawalpindi, before expanding province-wide.
