OpenAI Denies Claims That ChatGPT Will Stop Giving Medical, Legal or Financial Advice

A viral claim circulating on social media suggesting that ChatGPT will no longer offer medical, financial, or legal advice has been officially denied by OpenAI.
According to the reports, the alleged “policy change” would have restricted users from asking questions related to medicine, finance, or law. However, OpenAI executives have clarified that these reports are false and that ChatGPT’s behavior remains unchanged.
In a post shared by Karan Singhal, OpenAI’s Head of Health AI, he explained that the rumors misinterpreted an existing guideline. “The new usage policy update simply consolidates OpenAI’s previous terms into one unified document,” Singhal said, emphasizing that ChatGPT will continue responding to health, legal, and financial queries — though it cannot replace professional advice.
He further elaborated that the updated rules — released on October 29, 2025 — reiterate a long-standing clause that users should not rely solely on ChatGPT for specialized, license-based advice without consulting qualified professionals.
Previously, OpenAI maintained three separate policies (Universal, ChatGPT, and API). The latest update merges them into a single, simplified policy framework for consistency across all OpenAI products.
“ChatGPT’s policy around medical and legal advice is not new,” Singhal confirmed. “It has always been clear that the tool should not be used as a replacement for professional guidance.”
The rumors gained traction after a post by Kalshi, a prediction-market platform, claimed that ChatGPT had stopped offering health advice. The post has since been deleted following OpenAI’s clarification.
According to The Verge, the new policy does not prevent ChatGPT from discussing health, finance, or law — it only ensures transparency that AI assistance should complement, not replace, licensed expertise.
A KFF 2024 survey found that nearly one in six people worldwide use ChatGPT for health-related information each month, underscoring the chatbot’s growing role in public health communication.
The clarification from OpenAI aims to reassure users that the chatbot remains fully functional for informational purposes — with an ongoing focus on safety, accuracy, and responsible AI use.
