Google to Launch Chromebook Production Factory in Pakistan
LAHORE | November 2025 —
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the establishment of a Google Chromebook manufacturing plant in Punjab, marking a groundbreaking step toward expanding Pakistan’s technology-based education and strengthening the province’s digital infrastructure.
The decision was announced following a meeting between the Chief Minister and representatives from Google for Education and Tech Valley. During the session, the delegation demonstrated a range of AI-powered educational tools, including AI Gemini, Read Along, and Canva integration, highlighting their potential to make classroom learning more engaging and interactive.
Under Punjab’s ongoing digital-education initiative, more than 2,000 teachers have already received training in digital literacy, equipping them with the skills to integrate modern technology into everyday teaching. The provincial government plans to expand this program further to ensure that both urban and rural schools have equal access to innovative learning tools.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that education and technology must move forward together. Describing digital learning as crucial for preparing Pakistan’s youth for a rapidly evolving global economy. She reaffirmed her government’s vision to transform Punjab into an AI and innovation hub. Promising continued investment in initiatives that empower students with future-ready skills.
The upcoming Chromebook production facility is expected to create new employment opportunities. Encourage local manufacturing, and make digital devices more affordable for schools across the province. By localizing production, Punjab aims to reduce import dependency and support Pakistan’s “Made-in-Pakistan” technology ecosystem.
